date nut cake

I grew up in CT. One year, my grandparents went to CA to visit my grandmothers sister and family. When they returned from their trip, my grandmother had this new recipe from CA for us to try. She was clever. Instead of calling it by its name, "date nut cake", she called it the CA nut cake. She knew we would not want to try it otherwise. I make it every year at the holiday time, because thats what she always did.
