This is one of the more interesting cakes in Ma's recipe file that we found in NC in July 2019.

Ingredients For date cake and sauce, ma

  • 1 c
    dates
  • 1 tsp
    soda
  • 1 c
    boiling water
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 1/4 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    powder
  • nuts
  • SAUCE:
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    water with a little vanilla

How To Make date cake and sauce, ma

    Cake: Cut dates in small pieces and add soda and cover with water and let stand while you mix remaining cake ingredients. Then mix well and bake for 40 min in 350 degree oven.

    Sauce: Melt butter, add sugar and flour which have been mixed together. Add remaining ingredients. Cook until slightly thickened and pour over Date Cake. Top with whipped cream.
