My mom worked as a cook and baker at a railroad camp in the early 1900's. When she got married and had us kids she baked it for us!

Ingredients For crumb cake

  • PART ONE
  • 2 c
    sifted cake flour
  • 2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • PART TWO
  • 1
    egg, beaten
  • 1/2 c
    sifted cake flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 3/4 c
    milk

How To Make crumb cake

  • 1
    Rub flour, sugar and shortening. (Part 1), together until crumbly. Reserve 1/2 cup to sprinkle over the top of the cake.

    Mix ingredients of part two thoroughly. Spread in greased cake pan, sprinkle with reserved crumbs.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
