This recipe came to me through a Bake-off recipe book over 30 yrs ago. Still remains one of my favorites. Hope it will be one of your favorites too!

Ingredients For chocolate cherry bars

  • 1 pkg
    devils food cake mix
  • 1 can
    21 oz.,cherry pie filling
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp
    almond extract
  • FROSTING:
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 c
    + 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 c
    milk
  • 1 c
    semi-sweet chocloate chips

How To Make chocolate cherry bars

    Cherry Pie Filling, Almond Flavoring & Frosting Recipe, each important to this recipe.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease & flour a jelly roll pan/cookie sheet with sides
  • 3
    Combine ingredients, except Cherry Pie Filling, in a large mixing bowl. Blend well according to directions on cake mix box, then stir in (with mixing spoon) Cherry Pie Filling (Do not use electric mixer)

    Pour mixture into prepared pan & bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes.

    Combine sugar, butter & milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil & boil for 2 min., stirring constantly. Remove from heat & add chocolate chips & stir until smooth. Pour over cake, spreading to completely cover.
