I got this recipe from a "Prevention" low fat recipe booklet. It sounds easy enough and makes one 8 X 8 cake, just enough to go around one time :)

- CAKE

1 cflour

2 Tbspcocoa powder

1 tspbaking powder

1 tspbaking soda

1/4 cwalnuts
-
1/3 cskim milk
-
1 Tbspwhite vinegar
-
2/3 cunsweetened applesauce
-
1/2 choney
-
3egg whites
-
3 Tbsp+ 1 teaspoon cooking oil
-
1 tspvanilla
- APPLE TOPPING
-
2 cpeeled, diced apples
-
1/2 corange juice
-
3 Tbspwater
-
1 Tbspcornstarch
-
3 lggraham crackers, crushed

1 tspcinnamon
How To Make chocolate apple-pie cake

1FOR CAKE:

2In a small bowl mix dry ingredients

3In a cup, combine milk and vinegar
-
4In a large bowl beat together applesauce, honey, egg whites ,oil, vanilla and milk mixture with electric mixer on low.

5stir in flour mixture and mix well

6coat an 8X8 baking pan with cooking spray, add the batter and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes

7Let cool 5 minutes before adding the topping

8TOPPING: while the cake is baking, combine the apples and orange juice in a 2 quart saucepan.

9Cover and cook over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes, or until apples are tender

10in a cup mix the water and cornstarch. pour into the hot apple mixture and cook about 1 minute, until thickened. set aside and cool until needed

11when cake is ready, spread the topping over it. sprinkle with the crumbs and cinnamon

12Broil about 2" from the heat for about 1 to 2 minutes. watch carefully so topping doesn't burn.
