My friend, Sophie, gave me this recipe years ago and I wanted to share it with everyone. It is so simple to make and is easy to make. With the Maraschino Cherries it is a Christmas favorite!

Ingredients For cherry whiskey cake

  • 1 box
    yellow cake mix
  • 1 box
    instant coconut pudding
  • 4
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    canola oil
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 c
    walnuts chopped
  • 15-20
    maraschino cherries
  • SAUCE
  • 1/2 stick
    butter, room temperature
  • 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 c
    whiskey

How To Make cherry whiskey cake

    Put first 5 ingredients in electric mix master bowl, follow directions on box to mix. Fold in nuts & chopped cherries to batter.

    Using a buttered & floured tube pan, pour batter into it and bake for 55 minutes or test with a toothpick until it comes out clean. Cool for 15 minutes before adding sauce.

    While cake baking make sauce: melt butter on medium in pot; add sugar & whiskey cooking until it bubbles. Let sit to cool.

    Once cake has cooled, make holes with a fork or bamboo scorer over the top of the cake. Pour cooled sauce into holes. Let sit at least 1 hour to absorb the sauce before cutting.

    Note: you can use a 13 x 9 inch baking pan & follow the baking directions on the cake mix box.
