I found a similar recipe in an old cookbook when rooting around for something sweet to make. I switched it up to fit the fruit I had on hand, and it turned out amazing! Kuchen is German for cake, and this is a unique twist.

Ingredients For cherry peach kuchen

  • 1
    boxed cake mix, yellow, white or vanilla
  • 1 c
    sour cream
  • 1
    egg
  • 10 Tbsp
    melted butter, divided
  • 1 can
    sliced peaches, drained, or 2 fresh peaches
  • 2 c
    frozen or fresh dark sweet cherries
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 c
    chopped pecans, optional
  • GLAZE
  • 1 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tsp
    heavy cream, to desired thickness

How To Make cherry peach kuchen

    In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl, stir together 4 tbsp melted butter, the dry cake mix, sour cream, and egg just until combined, about one minute. Batter will be sticky.

    Press batter into a greased 9x13 pan. (Hint.. I used gloves and sprayed the gloves with no stick spray) Make sure the batter is distributed evenly.

    Bake for 10 minutes, remove from oven but do not turn oven off. Gently place peaches and cherries on top of batter. Sprinkle with the brown sugar mixture and nuts. Pour remaining 6 tbsp. Of butter evenly over the entire cake. Return to oven and bake till golden brown, approximately 30 minutes.

    Mix together glaze ingredients till smooth and pour over warm cake. Cool about 10 minutes before serving.
