My family love this cake and I usually have to hide this until Christmas. It is a moist pound cake. The butter shortening really adds flavour to this rich pound cake

    2 sticks butter plus more for pan
  • 1/2 c
    butter shortening
  • 3 c
    sugar
  • 5
    eggs
  • 3 c
    all purpose flour plus more for pan
  • 1/2 tsp
    fine salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 375 ml
    jar of maraschino cherries

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees Cream butter and shortening together Add sugar a little at a time Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each one Add dry ingrediants alternately with milk Add the vanilla Cut the cherries in half and coat with flour then stir into the batter Cut a circle of parchment for the bottom of the pan.Grease and dust with flour the pan. Pour into a springform pan Bake for 1 to 1/2 hours until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
