A couple of years ago my fiance wanted a butternut cake for his birthday, ok no problem i found the recipe on Flora's Recipes, the problem was finding BUTTERNUT FLAVORING!!!!!!, i looked every where for it, finally i had to order it online, didn't cost a lot, just not readily available in our area. But wow the cake was awesome, and even better 3 days later

Ingredients For butternut cake

1 cshortening
-
1 1/2 csugar

3eggs
-
1 3/4 call purpose flour

1 tspbaking powder

1 tspsalt
-
1 cmilk
-
1 tspvanilla extract
-
1 Tbspbutternut flavoring
- BUTTERNUT FROSTING

8 ozcream cheese, room temperature

1 boxconfectioners' sugar
-
1 Tbspbutternut flavoring

1 cchopped nuts( i used pecans)

1 stickbutter
How To Make butternut cake

1Preheat oven to 350. Mix shortening and sugar in a large bowl. Add and beat eggs into mixture one at a time. Add flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Beat well. Add vanilla and butternut flavoring. Beat well. Pour into 2 greased and floured cake pans or a bundt pan.

2Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes, Cook cake before icing.

3Let cream cheese and butter come to room temp. Beat all ingredients together, frost cooled cake.

4I have used this same recipe and just swapped the butternut for other flavors
