Decided to try this recipe from Lisa Glass and the smell of it alone will pull you right in to the world of Chocolate Magic, lol (I only made a few minor adjustments to fit my tastes)

Ingredients For black magic cake (the sister)

  • CAKE BATTER
  • 1 3/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 3/4 c
    cocoa powder- hershey's
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 c
    strong black coffee, cooled
  • 1 tsp
    real vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c
    vegetable oil
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • FROSTING
  • 3 c
    powdered sugar
  • 2 oz
    melted unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 5 Tbsp
    milk
  • 2 Tbsp
    real vanilla extract
  • DECORATIONS
  • hershey's chocolate syrup
  • semi sweet chocolate chips
  • white chocolate chips

How To Make black magic cake (the sister)

  • 1
    Combine batter mixture. Mix for a few minutes. Batter will be thinner than box cake mixes.

    Pour batter into a greased and floured 9x13 pan or two 9 inch cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees ( I learned through til, cooking times vary from 30-45 minutes) depending on your pans. Place in fridge to cool.

    Combine frosting ingredients in a bowl and mix. Spread over cool cakes. I add chocolate chips in between the layers for a little texture. Decorate and enjoy!
