Just read one of Jan's post about being able to "adopt" a recipe and had no idea we could do that. She was telling someone where they could find them, and so went looking and adopted this one. Will be working on it to see how it can be improved.This should be really fun.

Ingredients For best ever chocolate cake

  • 2.5 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    shortening or 2 sticks butter
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2.5 c
    flour
  • 1/2 c
    cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 c
    boiling water
  • 2 tsp
    soda (scant teaspoons)

How To Make best ever chocolate cake

  • 1
    Cream sugar and shortening and add eggs, one at a time.

    Sift flour three times with cocoa and salt.
  • 3
    Add alternately with buttermilk.
  • 4
    Add soda and water and add to above ingredients.

    Grease and flour 9 x 13 x 2 inch pan.

    Bake at 300 degrees for 90 minutes.

    Test for doneness, then cool and ice with your favorite icing.
