Don't know where my Nana got the idea to use bacon grease in a cake. This cake is similar to Araby Spice Cake in flavor.

Ingredients For bacon grease cake

  • 3/4 c
    bacon grease
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 7/8 c
    flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 3/4 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3
    eggs

How To Make bacon grease cake

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour pan.

    Mix all ingredients thoroughly.

    Pour into prepared pan(s).

    Bake at 350 degrees 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

    Allow to cool completely before icing. My grandmother would usually just put a dusting of confectioners sugar on the top.
