Ingredients For amish filled shortcake

  • 1/2 c
    lard (you can use crisco, margarine or butter)
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    each: salt and vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c
    milk
  • 3 c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 1/2 pt
    pie filling (cherry or apple works well)
  • CRUMBS
  • 1/2 c
    oatmeal, uncooked
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1/4 c
    lard or butter

How To Make amish filled shortcake

  • 1
    Cream together lard, sugar, egg and salt. Add the dry ingredients alternating with the milk, until all is blended. Pour 1/2 of mix in a greased and floured cake pan, cover this the pie filling, then the last of the mix.

    in a bowl blend all the crumbs ingredients and crumble over top of mix. Bake at 350 until done 25-35 minutes. Serve warm or cold, with or without ice cream.
