Ingredients For 3 layer chocolate espresso cake & frosting

  • 2 1/2 c
    flour
  • 2 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    espresso powder
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1 c
    canola oil
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • ESPRESSO CHOCOLATE BUTTERCREAM FROSTING
  • 2 c
    butter softened
  • 1 c
    unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 5 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1/3 c
    heavy cream
  • 2 tsp
    espresso powder

How To Make 3 layer chocolate espresso cake & frosting

    Preheat oven 350 degrees.Spray 3 round cake pans with cooking spray.

    Add all dry ingredients to a stand mixer and mix until well combined. Add all the wet ingredients except the boiling water and beat well. Turn the beaters down and slowly add the boiling water. Beat for 1 minute to add air to the batter. The batter will be a little runny. Pour into the prepared 3 pans. Bake about 35 to 40 minutes. Set aside and let cool.

    For the frosting beat the butter and cocoa powder until well combine. Beat in the powdered sugar, cream, vanilla and espresso. Spread over cooled cake.
