10 plum tomatoes, ends trimmed, sliced crosswise, 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick
1 1/2 pounds green tomatoes, cored and sliced 1/4-inch thick (4 or 5 usually)
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup buttermilk
3 large eggs
2 cups cornmeal
1 cup all purpose flour
2 1/4 cups parmesan cheese, grated
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup minced fresh basil for serving if desired
