1- 1.5 lb loaf Brioche sliced thick or Challah (about 8- one inch slices) day old is best
5 large eggs
1 egg yolk
1 1/4 cups half and half
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 tablespoon sugar

1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon maple extract
dash salt
