We thought we were getting a treat when we woke up to the smell of these cooking. We didn't realize it was a cheap way for Mom to feed us breakfast!

Ingredients For sputniks

  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    melted shortening
  • powdered sugar
  • very large glass of cold milk

How To Make sputniks

  • 1
    Beat egg.
  • 2
    Add milk and vanilla.
  • 3
    Add rest of ingredients, shortening last.
  • 4
    Drop in hot oil (365 degrees) by teaspoonful.

    Roll around while cooking (them, not you).
  • 6
    Remove when golden and drain on paper towels.

    Roll THEM in powdered sugar while hot.

    Don't eat too many!!!!
