This morning dish is guaranteed to stick to your ribs and warm you up. If you need to make this dish "macho" for your outdoor sportsmen, fry sausage and crumble into the grits for a hearty one-dish breakfast.

stone ground grits
- FOR FRUIT COMPOTE:

1 cfresh blackberries

1/2 cfresh strawberries, sliced

1 Tbspsugar

1/2 corange juice
How To Make grits & hot fruit

1Prepare grits according to package directions. Note that stone ground grits are NOT the same as quick cook versions. They take longer to cook, but are creamy and flavorful. Two of my favorite brands are: (1) Delta Grind - www.deltagrind.com; and (2) The Grit Girl - www.gritgirl.net.

2Place berries (substitute your favorites if you like), sugar and orange juice in a saucepan and bring mixture to a simmer.

3Stir until the berries release their juices and are reduced to a syrupy consistency.

4Pour grits into a bowl and top with hot fruit compote.
