My favorite buttermilk waffles. The batter would make great pancakes too.

Sunday brunch or breakfast just will be tastier with these homemade and delicious buttermilk waffles. They're light, airy, slightly buttery, and melt in your mouth. Once cooked, these buttermilk waffles have a crispy outside crust and remind us of something you'd find at a diner or cafe. Serve with fresh fruit or use as the base for chicken and waffles.

Ingredients For delicious buttermilk waffles

  • 2 1/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2 lg
    eggs, beaten
  • 2 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 8 Tbsp
    butter, melted

We found the batter was a touch thick. We added 1/4 c more buttermilk to the batter. This can easily be adjusted to taste.
  • Whisk dry ingredients.

    Whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
  • Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients.

    Add eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, and melted butter. Stir well.
  • Adjust thickness of batter.

    If the batter seems too thick or thin, adjust with buttermilk and/or flour.
  • Pour batter into a waffle iron and cook.

    Pour into a preheated waffle iron. Cook until crisp and golden.
