Recipe calls for green apples - red works just as well. I believe that walnuts would also be very good in the cake.

1 tspcinnamon

1/2 cbutter

1 cwater

1/2 cshortening

1/2 cbuttermilk

1/2 tspbaking soda

2eggs

1 tspvanilla

2 cchopped green apples
- FROSTING

6 Tbspmilk

3-1/2 cpowdered sugar

1/8 ccaramel sauce (i use caramel ice cream topping)
How To Make caramel apple sheet cake

1In a large mixing bowl, measure flour, sugar and cinnamon and stir to combine. Set aside.

2In medium sauce pan combine butter, water, and shortening. Bring to a boil. After mixture reaches a boil add it to the flour mixture and stir to combine. Add buttermilk, then baking soda, then eggs, then vanilla in that order, mixing in between each addition. Stir in apples.

3Pour into a 15x13 inch greased jelly roll pan.

4Bake at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes. Let cool for about 10-15 minutes.

5While cake is cooling, make frosting by combining butter and milk in a medium mixing bowl. Microwave until butter is melted. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and caramel sauce and stir until smooth. Pour frosting evenly over cooled cake.
