Test Kitchen Tips
There’s something so satisfying about this process, and it’s much easier than you would think! Though you can make the pastry from scratch, the puff pastry sheets allow you to skip the heavy lifting of doing so, saving so much time and energy.

Just sauté the apples for a few minutes, and you’re nearly there! All you need is 30 minutes to make this breakfast pastry, and we guarantee these strudels are worth the effort.
  • slicing puff pastry
    1
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice each puff pastry sheet into 6 pieces.
  • puff pastry cut
    2
Place 6 pieces on the prepared baking sheet and set the remaining 6 to the side. (They will be the top to the strudel.)
  • apples mix
    3
To make the filling, add the apples to a large bowl with the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix to combine.
  • melted butter
    4
Add the butter to a large pan and melt over medium-high heat.
  • sauteed apples
    5
Add the apple mixture and saute for 6 minutes until tender.
  • filling on pastry
    6
Spoon 1-2 tablespoons worth of the apple filling into the center of each puff pastry piece on the baking sheet.
  • mix egg wash
    7
Whisk the egg and milk together in a small bowl to create and egg wash.
  • brush edges
    8
Use a silicone brush to brush the edges around the filling of each puff pastry piece with the egg wash.
  • seal with fork
    9
Place the remaining 6 pieces of puff pastry over the tops of each filling. Use your fingers to press around the border, then use a fork to indent and seal.
  • brushing tops with egg wash
    10
Brush the top of each strudel with the egg wash. Bake 18-20 minutes.
  • mix glaze ingredients
    11
While the strudels cool a bit, make the glaze. Combine the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, whisking to combine.
  • glaze drizzle
    12
Drizzle the glaze over each cooled strudel and enjoy!
