Ingredients For eggs in a basket

  • 4 lg
    eggs
  • 4
    white or wheat bread slices with a hole cut in the middle
  • 1/2 c
    grated chedder cheese, or cheese you prefer
  • 1/2 stick
    butter
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Make eggs in a basket

    In heavy pan or dutch skillet melt butter on medim heat. When melted, add the sliced bread and let brown in butter for about 3 minutes. Crack each egg separately and place in the hole in each bread slice, and season with salt and pepper, Cook for about 5 minutes. Turn each egg basket over with spatula, and cook about 2 more minutes, adding the cheese on the side that is up, around the egg. Turn heat off, add lid for about 1 minute to melt the cheese. This is a good and quick breakfast by itself, or you can add sausage or bacon with juice.
