Ingredients For pain perdu

  • 1 pkg
    french bread loaf
  • 6 lg
    eggs
  • 1/3 c
    vegetable oil
  • 3 Tbsp
    grand marnier or other orange liquer
  • 2 Tbsp
    half and half
  • 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon zest, grated
  • 1 c
    powdered sugar

How To Make pain perdu

    In a heavy 12 inch skillet over medium heat, heat oil. In a medium bowl, combine eggs, liqueur, milk, sugar and lemon zest. Whisk until eggs are frothy and sugar is dissolved.

    When oil is hot, dip bread slices into batter, turning to coat well. Place coated bread in hot oil in batches. Keep warm while frying remaining slices.

    Fry until golden brown on both sides, turning once, 5 to 6 minutes. Drain on paper towels; lightly sprinkle with powdered sugar.
