Ingredients For sweet breakfast bread

2 1/2 cups flour

1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar

1 tbsp. shredded orange peel

1/2 t. salt
-
1/2 t. ground mace
-
1/2 cup butter or margarine

2 t. baking powder
-
1/2 t. baking soda
-
1 egg, beaten
-
3/4 cup buttermilk

1/2 t. ground cinnamon

1/3 cup chopped walnuts
How To Make sweet breakfast bread

1Combine flour, brown sugar, orange peel, salt and mace in a mixing bowl; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Measure 1/3 cup and set it aside.

2Add baking powder and soda to remaining crumbs. Combine egg and buttermilk; add to flour mixture, stirring until well mixed. Turn into a greased 9" square baking pan. Add cinnamon and walnuts to reserved crumbs; sprinkle evenly over batter.

3Bake in a 400 oven for 45 to 55 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Makes 9 to 12 servings
