Ingredients For sweet bishop’s bread

  • 2 1/2 cup sifted flour
  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk (add 1 tablespoon lemon juice to 1 cup milk; let stand 5 minutes)

How To Make sweet bishop’s bread

    Mix together flour, sugar, salt and butter til crumbly. Measure and set aside 3/4 cup of this mixture.

    To the remaining mixture, add the baking powder, soda, cinnamon, egg and buttermilk. Beat til batter is smooth.

    Spread batter in greased 8 inch square pan. Sprinkle 3/4 cup reserved mixture on top. Bake at 350 for 50 to 60 minutes or til wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool ten minutes. Cut and serve warm
