One of my middle sister's favorites when we were growing up. She liked it toasted and buttered for breakfast.

Ingredients For old fashioned gingerbread

2 csugar

1 cbutter, melted
-
1/4 cmolasses
-
2 tspground ginger
-
1 tspground nutmeg

1 tspground cinnamon

1 tspground cloves
-
1 pinchsalt
-
2 tspbaking soda
-
2 cbuttermilk
-
2 lgeggs
-
3 call-purpose flour
-
whipped cream or ice cream
How To Make old fashioned gingerbread

1Combine the first 8 ingredients (through salt) in a large mixing bowl; stir well.

2Dissolve the baking soda in the buttermilk. Add to the sugar mixture, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer until blended.

3Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Add the flour, and beat until blended.

4Pour the batter into a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Use a greased and floured tube pan if you want to slice and toast for breakfast. Bake at 350º for 45 to 50 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
