Mom made this bread for years. Its so good warm from the oven with just butter, you won't know its healthy. It is low fat and high fiber, too.

Ingredients For healthy tea bread- mom's

  • 1/2 c
    raisins, optional
  • 1/2 c
    hot water, needed only if raisins are used
  • 1/2 c
    grapenuts cereal, dry
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 lg
    egg, beaten
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda

How To Make healthy tea bread- mom's

    If using raisins: Place raisins in a small bowl and pour hot water on them. Allow to sit until called for in recipe. Place Grape-Nuts in another small bowl and pour buttermilk over cereal. Allow to sit for 20 minutes.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. When Grape-Nuts have soaked 20 minutes add egg and sugar and stir to mix. Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Stir dry ingredients into Grape-Nuts mixture. Drain raisins well. Fold into batter. Pour into a greased standard sized bread pan. Bake for 1 hour. Serve warm with butter.
