Ingredients For grandmother's gingerbread

1/2 csugar

1/2 cvegetable shortening

2eggs

1/3 cmolasses

2 call purpose flour

2 tspbaking powder

1 tspsalt

1/2 tspsoda

1/2 tspginger
-
1/2 tspcloves
-
1/2 tspallspice, ground

3/4 cdiluted evaporated milk*
-
whipped cream (optional)
-
nuts (optional)
How To Make grandmother's gingerbread

1Cream sugar and vegetable shortening. Add beaten eggs and molasses.

2Sift flour, baking powder,salt, soda, and spices. Add these alternately with the diluted* (half milk and half water) evaporated milk.

3Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes in a 8" or 9" square pan, which has been greased and floured. Serve with whipped cream and/or chopped nuts, if desired.
