My mother used to make this delicious bread every year at Christmas time. She was a fabulous cook. I truly don't remember anything she made turning out badly. Needless to say, I had a great teacher! :)

Ingredients For canadian lemon bread

6 Tbspshortening

1 csugar
-
zest of one lemon

1 Tbspbaking powder

1 1/2 cflour
-
2eggs
-
1/2 tspsalt

1/2 cmilk, whole

1/2 cwalnut pieces (optional)
- GLAZE
-
1/2 csugar
-
juice of 1 lemon
How To Make canadian lemon bread

1Cream shortening and sugar together until creamy.

2Add eggs and milk, mix well.

3Add salt,baking powder, and flour, mix well.

4Fold in lemon zest.

5Pour into greased, 1-quart, bread pan and let rise for 20 minutes.

6Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes, or until done.

7When still warm, remove from pan and brush the top and sides with the glaze.

8The glaze should be made and left to stand while the bread is baking.
