I just posted a version from my grandfather on my Mom's side. This is a recipe from my great grandmother on my father's side. Hmmm - with this kind of background, I don't have to think about why I like donuts.

Ingredients For boyd's donuts

  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp
    shortening, melted
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp
    ginger

How To Make boyd's donuts

    In a medium bowl mix together the sugar, milk, egg, vanilla and shortening.

    In a large bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and ginger.

    To the flour mixture add the wet ingredients and mix. Let stand for a few minutes.

    Roll out to 1/3" thick, cut and deep fry in hot fat. Drain on paper bag.
