I just posted a version from my grandfather on my Mom's side. This is a recipe from my great grandmother on my father's side. Hmmm - with this kind of background, I don't have to think about why I like donuts.

Ingredients For boyd's donuts

1/2 csugar

1/2 cmilk

1egg
-
1/2 tspvanilla extract

2 Tbspshortening, melted

2 cflour
-
2 tspbaking powder

1/2 tspsalt

1/2 tspnutmeg

1/4 tspginger
How To Make boyd's donuts

1In a medium bowl mix together the sugar, milk, egg, vanilla and shortening.

2In a large bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and ginger.

3To the flour mixture add the wet ingredients and mix. Let stand for a few minutes.

4Roll out to 1/3" thick, cut and deep fry in hot fat. Drain on paper bag.
