This is one of those comfort foods a true southerner can't do without! So easy to make... This works best if you can bake it in an iron skillet... a 10" or 12" skllet will work.

Ingredients For southern style cornbread

1 1/3 ccorn meal (stone ground works best)

2/3 call purpose flour

2 cbuttermilk (or use milk w/2 tbsbs vinegar to clabber it)

2 lgeggs (ex-lg or jumbo eggs are better)

2 tspbaking powder

1 tspbaking soda
-
1 1/2 tspsalt
-
2 to 3 Tbspshortening
How To Make southern style cornbread

1Using your hands, rub the shortening all over the inside of the iron skillet or pan you will use. Grease it well. Mix ingredients until just blended and pour into the prepared skillet or pan. Bake at 450 degrees until brown & crusty on top, about 30 minutes.

2Let set on top of the stove to cool about 20 minutes before serving. Serve with sweet creamery butter..... YUM!
