Ingredients For soft breadsticks

  • 2 1/2 c
    bread flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    dry, jarred yeast
  • 3/4 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    warm water (120 degrees)
  • 2 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp
    honey
  • 1
    egg yolk
  • 1
    egg white
  • parmesan cheese

How To Make soft breadsticks

    In a large mixing bowl, stir together 1 cup of the flour with 2 1/2 tsp. dry yeast, and salt, with a wire whisk.

    In another bowl, combine, warm water, olive oil, honey, and egg yolk.

    Add to dry mixture and beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowls constantly. Increase the speed to high and continue to beat for 3 minutes. Using a spoon, stir in remaining flour.

    Turn dough onto a floured surface, and knead until dough is smooth and elastic, about 5-8 minutes.

    Place in a greased bowl, turning to coat dough completely. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size. (About an hour.)

    Punch dough down. Cover with damp cloth and let rest 10 minutes.

    Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

    Divide dough in half. Divide each portion into 8 pieces. On a floured surface, roll each piece into a 6-8 inch rope and place 2 inches apart on baking dish. Cover and let rise 45 minutes more.

    Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

    Beat together egg white and 1 tbsp. water with a wire whisk. Brush over breadsticks and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

    Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
