because of my mother's wonderful heritage - (Swedish, Danish and Norwegian) we grow up with many yummy tasty meals, sweets, breads, cakes, etc... this was one of my favorite childhood treats - for we always had way to many apples in fall -

Ingredients For mom's norwegian apple bread

  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    ginger
  • 1/4 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/3 c
    buttermilk
  • 2 c
    chopped apples
  • 1/3 c
    chopped walnuts
  • TOPPING
  • 1/3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cinnamom
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter, softened

How To Make mom's norwegian apple bread

  • 1
    In a bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla.

    Combine flour, baking soda and salt; stir into the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.

    Fold in apple and nuts.

    Pour into a greased 9-in. x 5-in. loaf pan.

    For topping, combine the first four ingredients; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over batter.

    Bake at 350° for 55-60 minutes or until bread tests done. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack. Yield: 1 loaf.
