  • 1 1/2 c
    flour, sifted
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/4 c
    molasses
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 c
    whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 c
    shortening
  • 2 c
    buttermilk or sour milk
  • 3/4 c
    raisins (optional)

How To Make sandy's boston brown bread

    Sift together white flour, soda, and salt.

    Add whole wheat flour (do not sift).

    Add brown sugar.

    Add shortening. Cut in with pastry blender until mixture resembles course meal.

    In another bowl, beat eggs. Add molasses and milk to beaten eggs.

    Add wet mixture to the dry mixture. Add raisins - optional. Mix until all flour is dampened.

    Turn into greased loaf pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for about 1 hour.
