This is one of my all time favorites. Mom used to make these and homemade potato soup for us for supper. I always made sure I was home for that supper.

Ingredients For old-fashioned bran muffins

  • 1 c
    kellogg's all-bran
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 1 lg
    egg
  • 1/4 c
    shortening (crisco)
  • 1 c
    sifted flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    sugar ( i like to put 3/4 cup of sugar)

How To Make old-fashioned bran muffins

    In mixing bowl combine All-Bran and milk; let stand until most of milk is absorbed. Add egg and shortening. beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add to first mixture, stirring only until combined. Fill greased muffin pans two thirds full. Bake at 400 degrees about 30 minutes. Makes 9 muffins 2 1/2 in diameter.
