mom's apple bread

My Mother made this a lot in the fall. It always smelled so good baking. My family loves it. Before baking I mix up some cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle on top of bread.(quite a bit)

Ingredients For mom's apple bread

  • 1 c
    shortening (i use butter flavor crisco)
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 4 lg
    eggs
  • 3-4 Tbsp
    milk ( i use buttermilk)
  • 2 c
    chopped apple (1 lrg granny smith is about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 c
    chopped nuts (may omit)
  • 4 c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda

How To Make mom's apple bread

    Mix 1st 2 ingredients. Add eggs(I mix them slightly before adding)& milk. Mix dry ingredients together and combine with shortening mixture. Add apples.

    Put in 2 loaf pans that have been sprayed with cooking spray,or 6 mini pans . Bake 45 min for large loaves or about 30-35 min. with mini .When a toothpick inserted comes out clean they are ready.

    You can also make muffins: Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full and bake 20-25 min.or until toothpick comes out clean.(PREHEAT OVEN BEFORE BAKING-350)
