There are different stories of how these delicious treats got their name. The common denominator of all the stories is that they originated in the South; and that someone threw them to some barking dogs saying "hush puppies". However the name was chosen, it stuck. These corn meal delicacies are best fried in the oil after frying fish.

Ingredients For hushpuppies

  • 1 c
    cornmeal mix
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 3/4 c
    plain flour
  • 1 c
    onion, chopped fine
  • 1 Tbsp
    jalapeno pepper, chopped fine
  • 1 tsp
    jalapeno pepper juice
  • 1 sm
    can cream corn

How To Make hushpuppies

  • 1
    Mix all ingredients well. Mixture will be very thick.
  • 2
    Drop by tablespoonful in hot oil. Fry until golden brown. They will float to top when done.
