This is the only way I knew to make dumplings before I came to the south. I still use this recipe and it goes great if your doing a big pot of soup or stew.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Fluffy dumplings are drop dumpings with a biscuit-like texture. They are simple to prepare with only one step to make the dough. Then drop them in simmering soup, cover, cook, and they're done. Simple as that! Light and fluffy, the dumplings take on the flavor of the broth and seasonings in whatever soup or stew you're making.

Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt. Combine milk and salad oil. Then, mix all ingredients together so that it is sticky but able to drop from a scoop or spoon.
  • Scooping dumpling batter into soup.
    2
Last 15 minutes before serving your stew or soup, drop dumplings in simmering broth with a two-tablespoon scoop or spoon (you can make them smaller but they puff up as you can see in the photo).
  • Covering the saucepan while the dumplings cook.

Cover and cook for the remainder of the time. Will make 6 very good-sized dumplings, but could make as many as 10. Don't lift the lid while cooking.
