Ingredients For crispy green onion hoecakes

  • 1/4 c
    vegetable oil
  • 2/3 c
    water
  • 3/4 c
    buttermilk
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    cornmeal
  • 1 c
    self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c
    green onions, chopped
  • fresh cracked black pepper, to taste

How To Make crispy green onion hoecakes

    Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. On the stove top, heat a large skillet to medium-high. Add vegetable oil, wait a few minutes for it to heat up. Add 1/4 cup of batter at a time into the oil like you are making mini-pancakes. Fry for 3 minutes or until golden brown, then flip for additional 2 minutes, adding oil to the skillet as needed.
