This is a mildly sweet, buttery cornbread...quite old-fashioned except for the use of sour cream. However, the sour cream imparts a moistness and delicious flavor.

Ingredients For country kitchen cornbread

  • 1 c
    cornmeal
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • 1/3 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 1/2 c
    sour cream
  • 2
    eggs
  • 6 Tbsp
    melted butter (3/4 stick)

How To Make country kitchen cornbread

    In a bowl, stir together first 5 ingredients until blended.

    In another bowl, beat together remaining ingredients until blended.

    Add the dry ingredients and stir until mixture is blended. Do not overmix.

    Spread batter into a greased 9x9-inch pan and bake in a 350° oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until top is golden brown and a cake tester, inserted in center, comes out clean.

    Cut into squares and serve warm.
