Al's mother made this for her family and all the kids loved it. It is so good with a boiled dinner or just by itself with some butter and honey .

Ingredients For al's from scratch cornbread

  • 2 c
    self-rising corn meal
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1/2 can
    creamed corn (7 oz.)
  • 2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 c
    vegetable oil

How To Make al's from scratch cornbread

  • 1
    In a large bowl mix the cornmeal, two eggs and all the ingredients except the buttermilk.

    Slowly add the buttermilk until the batter is a consistency of cake batter.

    Pour in a cast iron skillet (if you have one) and bake at 475 degrees for 30 minutes.
