This has been a family recipe for years. I use a mini muffin pan and it is like having doughnut holes.I usually double this recipe and get about 3 dozen mini muffins

Ingredients For baked apple doughnuts

  • 1 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/3 c
    shortening (i use butter flavored crisco)
  • 1
    egg beaten
  • 1/4 c
    milk
  • 1/2 c
    grated raw apple
  • TOPPING
  • 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 c
    melted butter

How To Make baked apple doughnuts

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • 2
    Sift together First 4 ingredients and set aside
  • 3
    Combine shortening, egg,milk, and grated raw apple in bowl. Mix.

    Add to sifted dry ingredients and mix until blended.
  • 5
    Spoon into greased muffin tins, filling about 2/3 full.

    Bake at 350 degrees fro 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan immediately.

    Mix remaining sugar and cinnamon. Roll doughnuts in melted butter and or margarine, then in sugar and cinnamon mixture. Serve warm or wrap and pack for lunch when cool.
