This is an automatic bread maker recipe. The bread is my son's favourite. It is great for sandwiches, toast, and bread pudding.

  • 1 c
    water
  • 2 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp
    honey
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    rolled oats (not instant)
  • 1/2 c
    whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 c
    bread flour
  • 3 Tbsp
    milk, nonfat, dry
  • 1
    egg (optional)
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    active dry yeast
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 Tbsp
    gluten (optional)
  • I SOMETIMES ADD A TABLESPOON OF FLAX OR HEMP.

How To Make doug's honey nut oatmeal bread - breadmachine

    Put ingredients except walnuts in breadmaker according to the manufacturers instructions. This makes a 1 1/2 lb loaf. Use whole wheat setting.

    At the beep add the walnuts.

    After baking remove from pan and cool before slicing.

    Note:I usually use the dough cycle and form the bread into one medium loaf and a couple of little loaves. Let them rise until doubled in size (about 30 - 40 minutes). Then bake them in the oven at 375 degrees F. for 45 minutes for the larger loaf and 30 minutes for the little ones. I prefer to test them with an instant-read thermometer. Internal temperature should be 200 degrees F.
