Ingredients For venezuelan arepas

  • 2 c
    masarepa cornmeal
  • 1 1/4 c
    warm water
  • 1/2 c
    milk or buttermilk
  • 4 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    sugar

How To Make venezuelan arepas

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix all ingredients until smooth. Let sit 5-10 minutes so cornmeal absorbs liquid.

    Form into 8-10 disks, about 3" in diameter. Repair small cracks in edges. If there are too many cracks, knead in some more liquid.

    Lightly grease heavy skillet and cook arepas in batches until brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.

    Place on cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes.
