These dinner rolls are just amazing. I have never come across a better recipe. They keep up to two days in the fridge and freeze well, too! Great as is or add garlic, herbs and parmesan cheese.

  • 1/4 c
    melted butter
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 c
    water, ice cold
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 1/2 c
    white whole wheat flour
  • 1 Tbsp
    italian herbs (optional)
  • 2 tsp
    garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 c
    parmesan cheese, finely grated (optional)
  • 2 1/2 c
    bread flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    yeast

How To Make do ahead soft fluffy whole wheat dinner rolls

    Place first five ingredients in bread machine in order listed. If using, sprinkle italian herbs, garlic powder and parmesan cheese on top of white whole wheat flour. Add remaining ingredients in order listed.

    Run on dough setting.

    Shape rolls into golf ball size rolls and place in a greased baking pan. A metal pan will yield a nicer crust. To get an even roll, gather and pinch the roll at the bottom until you have a nice round ball.

    Now you can either refrigerate, freeze or let the rolls rise immediately. You may want to use only part of a batch and refrigerate or freeze the rest.

    To refrigerate or freeze, cover tightly with plastic wrap. Rolls will keep in the refrigerator two days and will freeze for up to six months.

    If you have frozen the rolls, remove from freezer, cover with a damp towel and let rise for five-six hours. If you have refrigerated the rolls, spray with cooking spray and let rise for up to two hours. if you plan to use the rolls immediately, spray with cooking oil and let rise for approximately one hour. Rolls should be double in size.

    Preheat oven to 350. Bake approximately 15-18 minutes. Remove and let cool. Spray once more with cooking oil before serving.
