Anyone who knows me knows that I don't do yeast. So any time a recipe for bread, biscuits, rolls, etc., comes along that does not require yeast, I'm all over it! This one is for me! Recipe & photo: Taste of Home 02-27-15

Ingredients For flaky cheddar-chive biscuits

  • 2-1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2-1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 tsp
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    cold butter, cubed (1 stick)
  • 1 c
    (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 Tbsp
    minced fresh chives
  • 1 c
    buttermilk

How To Make flaky cheddar-chive biscuits

    In a large bowl, whisk the first five ingredients together. Cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; stir in cheese and chives.

    Add buttermilk; stir just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 8-10 times.

    Pat or roll dough to 3/4-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter or the open end of a small glass. Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 425º oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with melted butter.
