I have this recipe in a church cookbook and the biscuits bake up high and fluffy.

Ingredients For angel biscuits

5 cflour

1 tspbaking soda

2 pkgactive dry yeast

1/2 cwarm water (110 degrees)

3 tspbaking powder

3/4 cshortening
-
2 cbuttermilk
-
1 tspsalt

3 Tbspsugar, divided
How To Make angel biscuits

1In a one cup measure pour in warm water. Stir in yeast and 1 Tbsp. of the sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes.

2In a large bowl, sift dry ingredients including the remaining 2 Tbsp. sugar together. Cut in shortening. Add the yeast mixture and butter milk and mix well.

3Since this makes a large batch, you can store it in the refrigerator for 7-10 days and pinch off amount needed.

4Pinch off amount needed, knead a few times and roll to about half an inch. Cut out biscuits and bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
