This recipe was taken from Fannie Farmer's Squash Biscuits (1896) These biscuits were made at night and allowed to rise overnight and shaped into biscuits for morning breakfast. The pictured biscuit has a honey cinnamon butter on it. Recipe also below. The butter is a new addition to this recipe. *********** Honey cinnamon butter 1 stick butter, softened 1/4 cup honey 1 teaspoon cinnamon 3 tablespoons powdered sugar Mix all together and serve with biscuits.

Ingredients For squash biscuits

  • 1/2 c
    squash (steamed and put through a sieve)
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    milk, scalded
  • 1/4
    yeast cake dissolved in ¼ cup lukewarm water
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 2 1/2 c
    flour

How To Make squash biscuits

  • 1
    Add squash, sugar, salt, and butter to milk; when lukewarm, add dissolved yeast cake and flour; cover, and let rise over night. In morning shape into biscuits, let rise, and bake.

    serve hot from the oven for breakfast, can be served with real butter or honey cinnamon butter
