johnnie's homemade biscuits
(1 rating)
This is an old recipe that my grandmother, Johnnie, had passed down to my father. He knows it only from memory of his mother making almost every breakfast growing up. The ingredients are simple and has been a favorite of my family for many years!

How To Make johnnie's homemade biscuits
-
1For biscuits. Mix all dry ingredients well with fork. Stir in milk and oil. The dough needs to be moist, add more milk if necessary. Only stir long enough for dough to form, over-stirring will cause the biscuits to be tough.
-
2Lay dough on floured surface and pinch off medium size balls.
-
3Place dough balls into an oiled, 10" diameter circular dish or cake pan. Any pan will work, but all the biscuits need to fit snuggly.
-
4Flip the biscuits so that the oil can be spread evenly on the top and bottom of each one.
-
5Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until tops of biscuits are light golden brown.
-
6GRAVY ...... Heat oil on low in a deep skillet or stove top pan. Sprinkle in flour evenly. Add meat if desired. Very slowly add milk and water, stirring steadily. Milk should thicken when brought to a simmer. When thick, add salt and black pepper to taste.
