baking essential: savory italian style bisquick
If you know me, you understand that I try to come up with substitute recipes for just about anything I am able. For example, things like canned soups, etc This is a pretty standard recipe for making faux Bisquick. It is a bit different, because I have given it more of an Italian slant. I would not use this recipe for making pancakes, but it is my go to recipe for just about any kind of savory biscuits. And, by putting the spices in ahead of time, and letting the mixture sit in the fridge, it gives the spices a chance to blend with the flour. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

How To Make baking essential: savory italian style bisquick
-
1PREP/PREPARE
-
2I use lard, because it gives this recipe the best rise, when using in things like biscuits. However, you could use vegetable shortening, or even sweet, unsalted butter.
-
3Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
-
4Add all the ingredients (except the lard) to a food processor fitted with an S-blade, or a good blender, like a Vitamix (I love my Vitamix), and give it a few pulses to mix the ingredients.
-
5Add the cold, cubed lard, and use 1-second pulses until the mixture resembles corn meal.
-
6Place in a sealed container in the fridge, and let sit a few days before using (it really makes a difference in the savory flavors of the mixture).
-
7Chef’s Note: The spice combination I use is based on what I like. If you other spices you want to add… Go For It.
-
8PLATE/PRESENT
-
9Use anywhere you have a savory dish that calls for “standard” bisquick. Enjoy.
-
10Keep the faith, and keep cooking.
